Two “Must Have” to Help You Farm on PvP-Realms

Spy in action

(07/04-2015) –  Farming can be dangerous if you are on a PvP or RPPvP realm. On every realm, you have people known as gankers: Originally, ganking was when people were more than one attacking a player from the opposite faction (from the words “gang killing”), but nowadays, it refers mostly to higher level killing lower level (today’s gang-killing is mostly called “zerging”).

However, even if you don’t get ganked, you might get caught into PvP and it is not always interesting. I mean, when I am farming ores or flowers, I don’t really have time to waste on PvP’ing. I’d rather let him have one spot and I fly or ride to another location.

Therefore, the little add-on known as Spy, is a great help.

You can find this add-on on Curse, right here =>

This add-on scans for enemy players and announces their presence when they are detected. If the player is fighting a mob, for example, Spy will attempt to determine the class, race and level of the player.

It is not always very precise, as it depends on the ability used. So sometimes, you can see that there is a “paladin lvl 30+” around… Which is not very surprising in Draenor.

But you get warned that there is an enemy player around and even what class it is. If the player stealth, you get a warning too: Druid just stealthed, or rogue just stealthed.

If you click on the name of the player, you will target him (except if he is stealthed). In this case, you can see exactly class, hit points and level and choose whether you prefer to move on, to ignore or to pick up a fight. You can have some players, who you know are going to attack you because they already did, or at least tried, on a special list, a KoS list (Kill on Sight). You will then get a special warning.

If you see the player is harmless (if it is a lower level or a bot), you can ask Spy to “ignore” him. So you won’t get warned next time you meet him. Beware, though, some players will ignore you while they are farming, but they might attack you once their farming is over, though.

The second “Must Have” is “Invisibility potion” or “Lesser Invisibility Potion”. The difference between the two is not their efficiency, but the time they work. Lesser Invisibility works in 15 seconds and Invisibility potion goes on for 18 seconds. It can’t be used while in combat and has 10 minutes cooldown.

If your class can’t stealth (or bubble and hearth!), these potions are great against gankers, especially those who find it funny to camp you (kill you every time you come back to life). Of course, you can just log off and come back later, but you might have other plans, or it might be your only miner/herbalist/whatever and you would like to have the possibility to get out of the situation and eventually to go and farm somewhere else.

Then, at the second you resurrect, take a zip of a potion and you turn invisible. It is not like the rogue’s or druid’s stealth (which can be seen by higher level enemies), you are invisible to the enemy player (and the mobs around) even if those are of much higher level than you.

So get invisible, and you have 15 or 18 seconds to move far away from the camper and from there, ride or fly away and farm elsewhere.

Beware of Area of Effect, though. Any damage will make you visible again. And you don’t want that.

Happy farming! (Scorpyo)
